Supporting a Mum to Heal Cracked Nipples and Breastfeed with Confidence

CLIENT PROFILE

Audrey, a second-time mum in her early 30s | Pre-school teacher in Singapore | Baby 9 days old | Breastfeeding but experiencing cracked and damaged nipples

SERVICE RENDERED

Postnatal Breastfeeding Consult

(This service entailed a 1:1 home consultation to observe feeds and create a plan, plus 1 week support via WhatsApp to check in on progress, all in Singapore.)

MUM WAS EXPERIENCING PAINFUL BREASTFEEDING AND WASN'T SURE HOW TO CONTINUE COMFORTABLY.

Audrey reached out after a tough first week of feeding her newborn. Her nipples were red, sore, and even bleeding, and every feed hurt despite trying for a deep latch.

She still wanted to breastfeed but had started using a bottle because feeding directly was too uncomfortable.

Audrey needed support to heal her nipples, protect her milk supply, and regain confidence feeding her baby.

WHAT DID OUR WORK LOOK LIKE

During our 90-minute home session, we focused on what was causing Audrey’s pain and how to feed comfortably:

  • Watched a feed together to see what was causing her pain

  • Adjusted how Audrey and her baby fit together so that feeding felt more comfortable

  • Created a tailored plan to rest and heal her nipples while protecting her milk supply

  • Explored flexible feeding options so she could take short breaks from direct feeds when needed, while still staying connected with her baby.

After the session, we stayed in touch over WhatsApp to check in, troubleshoot, and support her as her nipples healed and she grew more confident feeding her baby.

THE RESULTS

Audrey was able to feed directly from the breast comfortably once her nipples healed.

She no longer experienced bleeding or sharp pain, and she could complete feeds without needing to switch to a bottle. Her milk supply stayed strong, and she felt confident and relaxed feeding her baby again.

She said:

“Thank you for your time and support. I’m latching exclusively now.

I’m glad latching is a lot more comfortable than before too and that he’s willing to latch again."

WHAT STOOD OUT TO ME

When Audrey messaged me that she could feed without pain, I couldn’t stop smiling. Her nipples had healed, she was actually feeling confident again, and I kind of wanted to high-five her through the screen! We’d moved at her pace, one step at a time, and seeing her breakthrough happen was just the best.

And for other mums, remember: you don’t need “nipples of steel” to breastfeed successfully. Breastfeeding can feel doable and even comfortable again with the right support!
